My Student Aid App: FAFSA

Federal Student Aid launched their flagship app in 2019, containing only the FAFSA. The mission was to update the visual and UI design while still working within the elements of their visual branding and technical confines of the product at the time, and also to unify the entire federal student loan experience.

I modernized and harmonized the app with the new web experience for 20 million users annually and also made UX improvements based upon best practices and usability testing I conducted.

Usability Testing

Usability testing fostered the creation of a sub-menu to aid user navigation through the 200+ page application. Language adjustments also helped users more clearly understand the complex financial questions on the application. The FAFSA is filled out by more than 20 million users a year, and now is app and desktop web compatible which it had never been. This holistic experience eases the journey to complete this complex form by now saving user data entry between both mediums.
